Orrin Tucker died today at the age of 100. Another piece of the big band era has left us and never to be seen again. RIP Orrin Tucker...

Orrin Tucker is 100 years old today. He recorded three tunes that were from the 1920s that were originally done by the Coon-Sanders Nighthawks Orchestra. 'Too Busy', 'Got a Great Big Date With a Little Bitta Girl', and 'I Need Lovin.' He is quite a fan of that great band. I was able to talk with him, and send him copies of some of his recordings. He lost all of his memorabilia in a house fire several years ago. He is quite a gentleman!

I know of at least a couple of leaders who had bands in the 40s or earlier who are still alive besides Orrin. Ray Anthony, Gerald Wilson, and Johnny Otis. Probably more.

who are all the women singers iin the group pictures?

Great slide show with plenty of nice photos of Orrin Tucker. Good music also, the Sousaphone (or tuba?) seems to give some of the numbers a nice little extra kick.
Much thanks for all your effort in posting.

Thanks so much for posting this!! My great uncle was Phil Patton, Orrin's drummer on much of his material. It's fun to look at these pictures and try to figure out if any of the people in them are him. If he or his sister were still alive I'm sure they would thank you too!

Are you interspersing the Orrin Tucker sides with Vince Giordano cuts?

I've merged some of Orrin's recordings with the San Francisco Starlight Orchestra, as many of his performances were live and not recorded.
