A bat in the house

I was dreaming one night, and in that dream, I kept hearing a high-pitched chirping noise. When I woke up, I still heard that noise. I could hear my cat in 'hunting mode', so I assumed it was a chipmunk in the house (it has happened before). Much to my dismay, after a large insect flew over my head, a bat flew after it. Not what I wanted to wake up to. I would have preferred a chipmunk, since they can't fly. Since our ceilings are so high, that it would be impossible to 'shoo' the bat out, we decided to shoot the bat. I felt bad, but he should've stayed outside.
