When things do fall apart, that material-infrastructure will decay, which will mean in one or two decades most firearms would be gone. The disappearance of that material structure is enough to place people back into the age of feudalism.
This decay of material caused by the worshipping of material, will easily bring back a type of civilisation. This isolation of people from how complicated things actually are, as part of social-engineering is the item which is already causing the breakdown.
