  • @deanmark11 Much of Africa is still under colonial rule. Merchants pillaging in the name of God, Gold and Glory have given way to global corporations. They destabilize regions, quash pro-democratic movements, erect puppet governments and pay off a handful of officials in order to continue usurping resources with virtual impunity. Very little of the monetary wealth of these petroleum- and gemstone-rich nations remains in the local economies. It is exported to the U.S and Europe to this day.

  • @SylvanaForrester the country is in a much worse state now than it ever was under british rule atleast not many people was starving under british rule...these days so much curruption and starving people.

Africa would be better off under european rule..and u say the poverty was exacerbated under british rule, you obviously have no idea what you are talking about.

  • I think I'd feel a bit guilty living on such an estate knowing the poverty that surrounded me and how it was exacerbated by the colonial presence from which I was descended.

  • metoo

  • my grandfather lived and fought throughout east africa, he always said when britain left the continent would collapse....zimbabwae!! he was right!

  • What a precarious existence they lived - they probably never knew how close they always were to being murdered like that. I lived in a relatively safer part of Zambia for many years.

  • I was there in March 2006. It was then run by Gore-Browns granddaughter and her husband. Cant remember his name now, but he was out walking the dogs and talked something about him running a big game hunting business. There is also beautiful hot springs in Kapisha another 30 kilometers or so down the road.

  • The Harvey's were murdered by local ANC supporters. They were shot in their library after dinner.

While it was initially reported as a simple burglary, it was later hinted to be an asassination caused by their attempts to prevent poaching. This theory was supported by former President Kenneth Kaunda.

  • Sorry. My comment was intended to respond to mjd612, not mason101.
