In recent years, people have raved over Jennifer Holliday, Jennifer Hudson, Martha Wash, Fantasia Barrino, and currently Lakisha and Malinda on American Idol. Well they all pale into insignificance next to the sheer awe of the mighty Vermettya Royster. Vermettya has always been and remains the lead vocalist of SISTERS LOVE. While still recording with the group, when we did the whole Motorcity project, this remake of one of the Sisters Love classics was her first ever solo recording. Sisters Love started out with A&M Records in the mid-sixties with a string of soul hits, hitting big with "Forget It I've Got It". They then joined MOTOWN's new West Coast label in the late sixties, MOWEST, turning out classic after classic such as "Mr. Fixit Man", "I'm Learning To Trust My Man", and their original recording of this single, "Give Me Your Love" (the song first appeared as a CURTIS MAYFIELD recording on the 'Superfly' movie soundtrack album). The group were disbanded for many years, but thanks to the hard work and efforts of Vermettya Royster and RUDY CALVO, reformed and came back together again and recorded for MOTORCITY RECORDS, and they completed many other tracks other than this solo outing, including "No More Broken Hearts" (an early Motorcity 12" release - catalogue number MOTC3); "Saturday Night, Sunday Morning" (available on a various artists CD, "Motorcity Magic" - catalogue number CDMOTCLP55) and "Something About You" (available on the various artists CD "Nowhere To Run" - catalogue number CDMOTCLP57). When we filmed "The Strange World Of Northern Soul", Rudy Calvo went one step further, and got the whole original line-up of Sisters Love back together for "I'm Learning To Trust My Man". Anyway, Vermettya was so excited with her new and outrageous arrangement of "Give Me Your Love" that she went out and performed it a few times during the short time she lived in England for a temporary period, in 1991. She redefines the word "Diva" with a Capital "D". Larger than life and utterly utterly outrageous

  • Hey Ian. I´m not an I-tunes person. Can we get this and all her other stuff on a CD??

  • not only does Vermettya have a great voice, she is also a lovely lady.Years ago she used to stay with a friend of hers in Plaistow,East London, and i had the pleasure of chatting to her for a long time and selling her a Christmas Tree of all things,She also worked with Elvis Presley, she showed me a scrap book of photos of her working with Elvis,Ray Charles when she was a Raelette and also when she was an Ikette.

  • If I heard this sung by chinese people, it will still be a bad ass song! I always thought this song had the hottest beat and some kick ass lyrics! IanLevine I don't know you, babe, but I love the hell out of you for this! Thanks!

  • Wow! Slip it to me! What a great (and sexy) rendition of a super song! Thanks for posting, Ian.

  • Yes--this is the same V that sang with the Ward Singers back in the late 60's and early

70's. Also did alot of background studio work during the disco era in addition to being a one time Ikette (backing Ike & Tina)and a Raelette (Ray Charles bad ass background singers.)

  • Ian, I just downloaded this great song from iTunes. Sublime!
