My uncle Alexander Gordon Murdoch in the film 'Western Approaches'. He's waving the flare to attract help from a passing ship. This film was shot in Anglesey in 1944 and told of the vital role of the merchant navy during the second World War.
The film was made by the Crown Film Unit and colour cameras were brought in from the USA to Holyhead.
How interesting..My Mother's cousin Pat jackson directed it.

Funny that you recently posted a part of the film Western Approaches. Accidently, I just wondered now if this film would be on You tube: and there it is. The reason I was interested is that my father played the German U boot captain. I remember he telling me about how some scenes were shot. My father served as an officer of the Royal Dutch Navy during WOII and did minesweeping. He was posted in several ports in the UK during wartime. He died 9 years ago.
