  • so thats where the pixar logo came from, interesting. 5.47

  • Yep - it's funny to see how many people are not aware of Luxo Jr. For me that was the turning point of computer graphics. Incidentally a lot of the models in John Lasseter's old films can be seen again hidden away in most of the Pixar movies - the lamp, the beachball, the snow-dome-shaker thing, etc... :)

  • WOW! I remember watching this on the tele when it was first shown. The LUXO Jr clip blew me away as a kid who was still using a Commodore 64. Never thought I'd see this again. Excellent stuff! Cheers.

  • No probs, glad you appreciate it! There seem to be more and more clips from Micro Live popping up on YouTube every day, looks like everyone's going through their old VHS collection like I am :)

  • Didn't pay attention before, but the guy being interviewed is Martin Lambie-Nairn, founder of the very successful branding agency.

  • Wish i could go back in time to 1985 and show them my xbox 360

  • At the end of the clip you get a surprisingly undated glimpse of the future with the Pixar clip (amazing for 1987, really).

    And then...

You come back down to Earth with the request for a "Self-adressed envelope" for the factsheet...a strange dichotomy of those times...

  • @SuperBladez Video gaming at that time was very innovative and easily open to change. Today we might have processing power that people in 1985 couldn't have dreamed of, but the games have becoming a collection of a bunch of cliches and 'safe' genres that all look alike.

On the other hand, with that type of processing power and the still unestablished nature of the industry, we can only imagine what they could produce with them.

  • you betta have 75p bitches! LMAO

  • Is this the guy who did the Dire Straits clip?

  • Can't believe they were capable of that in the 80's, thought that quality was only reached mid 90's.

  • did anyone else find the honeywell commercial a bit terrifying? not because of how things looked, but the events that happened within it.

  • @Spitfire67 you won't pay your TV license anymore so they had to cut costs.

  • What's crazy is that all this seminal work is still more exciting to watch today than today's computer animation! Growing up at the time, before home computers were typical, like a lot of digital news at the time it all came with the feeling "This is going to be big... REALLY big!". : )

  • @jowie74 Don't quote me on this but I believe he is responsible for the spinning channel 4 logo.

  • Martin Lambie-Nairn is now Creative Director at London based brand consultancy - Heavenly

  • It was only four years later when Terminator 2 came out. And at the time those were the best special effects known. Even now it still holds up reasonably well.
