You could be the pope for all I care, you could be a scholar, it makes no difference. If you have never been born again by the Holy Spirit of God then you can't know these things.
Christ can easily clear up your confusion, I'm not confused. You should read the bible and study it prayerfully, seek the LORD and ask Him to reveal His truth to you.
I outgrew living an empty life based on nothing but self satisfaction in sin, waiting to die and go to hell.
I know because Jesus knew, and He told.

churches are an avenue to god, but we must find him for ourselves. Churches can be wrong, boring, in error, or just not know how to communicate well. God comes to us personally. Sometimes he uses churches, don't depend on them though. Get quiet, ask, and move forward w/ your antennaes up. God still speaks and is trying to get thru to us. Take him at his word. Be daring enough to say, ok God, show yourself. Don't look for lightning; he chooses calm ways, works in our day, a song, a comment
