Unity and Gnome 3 Compared

A quick comparison of the Unity and Gnome 3 user interfaces with an eye to their design, successes and failures. Ubuntu will me moving to the Gnome 3 toolkit with 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) so the Gnome Shell will be available to users for the first time.

What wallpaper is that? I've done a cursory search on Google but I've been unable to find it.

@gentoogeek The 2 wallpapers are the default ones for Unity on Ubuntu 11.04 and Gnome 3 on Fedora 15. Fedora's wallpaper is the Gnome 3 default but with birds and swirls.

@monegarand well it is suppose to make it easier for tablets an touch-screens, i would say they both need to be improved and they will by the time.. since they are both open-source i am sure they will get much better

wtf unity in ubuntu 11.10 is wayyyyyy better and faster...quite franky i find unity in ubuntu 11.10 faster and snapper than gnome 3.

You should revaluate though as unity in 11.10 is far better then it was in 11.04

Gnome-shell > Unity.

Unity is an unholy mess, gnome-shell is sleek and user friendly...

Unity , and GNOME3 are both buggy. GNOME2 was way better , and even " Linus Torvalds " called GNOME 3 an "unholy mess"... I would have to agree.
