I'm the Greg Head in the video. The Lifehacker article "The Pomodoro Technique Trains Your Brain Away From Distractions" incorrectly says I'm a software developer, but I'm really a marketing strategy consultant at New Avenue, and former software industry executive.
Get the a simple PDF ebook that explains the entire process in detail on the Pomodoro Technique official website.
I use the free software called Pomodoro Desktop for Mac.

for people who can't focus with a ticking sound, there is a google chrome app called the "tomatoist" that uses the pomodoro technique.

The ticking helps my distracted brain to remember I'm being timed.

I'm on my pomodoro break right now. This really works, take it from the queen of procrastination.

I always do without the ticking, but it helps to have a clearly visible timer.

Yes, me too, 8-10 minutes is what I found to be the perfect break time.

Flylady dot net uses similar method for house cleaning and exercising, but breaks down into 15 minutes. The 15 minutes is to help keep you from being "side-tracked" and says "You can do anything for 15 minutes."
