J.S. Bach: Prelude and Fughetta in D minor, BWV 899, played on an 1892 6'2" Knabe grand. This piece is often included in the collections of "little" preludes and fugues, though in its musical content it is neither little nor easy, and I believe that it deserves to be better known.

  • I played this in church on the organ about a month ago, the prelude as a prelude and the fugue as a postlude. You must be in a D minor mood, this and The Art of Fugue all in D minor. You have nice lyricism in the prelude. Great clarity in the fugue also.

  • Thank you very much for the kind comment. This piece---especially the prelude, with its pedal points---strikes me as a good candidate for the organ. I'd like to hear you play it on the organ!

  • Lovely. This piece, and other of your recent postings, are currently soothing and smoothing my Sunday evening, prior to yet-another return to the oh-so amusical workweek. Thank you so much for this gift of sanity and peace.
