This is me leading the way in to the yurt camping trip on November 28, 2010. The Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation makes yurts available for private weekend rentals. We struggled through 18-24 inches of snow for 2 miles, which took us 5 1/2 hours. We were all exhausted when we finally located the yurt well after dark. I was the only one with snowshoes so was chosen to stomp out a trail. the 5 people following me did not have it easy in any way, however. The snowshoes helped a little, but mostly they just post holed their way the entire length of the trail. We were all carrying packs, and were all equally exhausted upon arrival. I was soaked with sweat and instantly got freezing cold as soon as I quit exerting myself--a very dangerous situation. Even standing around the wood stove didn't help until a friend loaned me a dry shirt. The trek in was exhausting, but the reward was great. It was beautiful. I was going to say peaceful but the fact was that there was a lot of laughing, joking, eating, and fooling around going on with family and good friends, so I guess the solitude and reflection will have to come on another trip.
You are in your element. Ann
