Two versions of You're A Sweetheart - Slidin' Selena's feature.

First version is recorded live in Zwolle, July 4. 2007
Second is a studio recording dating back to march 18. 2005.

Live version :
Slidin' Selena Kuiper - trombone, vocal
Lielian Tan - drums
Koos Greven - banjo
Michel Muller - trumpet
Bert Brandsma - bass-saxophone

The studio take was recorded at famous Studio 44 by Max Bolleman. This is a wellknown place where also people like Dizzy Gillespie and Trummy Young recorded.

In this version Selena Kuiper was accompanied by :
Bert Brandsma - clarinet
Michel Muller - trumpet
Koos Greven - guitar
H.H. - bass
Raymond van der Hooft - drums

Selena played this piece at her final exam at Rotterdam Conservatory in 2004. Her inspiration to play it came from a record (She got from Bart van Lier ) whereon Dick Nash played.
Dick Nash got his inspiration from a Tommy Dorsey record, dating back to October 14. 1937
There also exists a version recorded by Adrian Rollini (On vibraphone, not bass-sax) from 1936.

From Finland we've got a message that there also exists a recording of Frank Rosolino playing and singing this number. It's on the album "Turn Me Loose!
I didn't know that, and therefore appreciate the information very much! Thanks!

  • Have you ever heard Little Willie John's version?

  • @jisiri Yes, certainly. It;s interesting, but Selena is much closer to the original version's from the 1930's. The way the great Tommy Dorsey did play it.

  • I've loved this song since I first heard it in 1958. This is an incredible version of it; a real find!

  • Thanks for visiting, we have 3 versions of it now. This live version and the attached studio recording. Elsewhere on our youtube account you'll be able to find Selena's final exam at Rotterdam conservatory from 2004.

    Kind regards,

    Bert Brandsma

  • A trombone is singing sound very beautifully, isn't it?

  • Very Nice Bone playing, Great Tone! Also, everyone should listen to the Frank Rosolino version on "Turn Me Loose", a very good song played by one of the greatest jazz trombone soloists ever.

  • has aynone heard the lee wiley version? about 1955. brilliant!

  • Hers is a career I'm anxious to follow. She has genuine talent.
