GLOW 2011 - Zwarte Doos, TU/e campus - HD

The machine shown, is a Tesla coil. It represents Prometheus, who stole the fire from the gods and gave it to human mortals. The Tesla coil produces bolts of lightning, which -in the old ages- were only cast 'by the gods'. In primeval matter the lightning converted molecules of carbondioxide, ammonia and water into amino acids, the building blocks of life. On one of the windows of the Grand Café, an animation is projected of these chemical reactions, based on results that were found in the famous experiments conducted by Urey and Miller in the 1950s.

Hij stond uit ofzo toen wij langkamen; ik heb hem niet gezien. Ik heb het vetste van GLOW gemist. :(

@marijnator: Omdat er de eerste nacht van GLOW iets was doorgebrand, heeft de Tesla coil op zondag 6 november niet aangestaan. De andere dagen hebben ze de apparatuur af en toe tussendoor laten afkoelen om verdere problemen te voorkomen.

@NLMARVINNL: De Tesla coil komt het beste tot zijn recht als het donker is, overdag zijn de bliksemflitsen niet zo goed te zien. Misschien dat de Tesla coil wel bij de faculteit Electrical Engineering binnen kan worden getoond. Gezien de grote belangstelling tijdens GLOW, zou dat niet zo'n verkeerd idee zijn.

@NiceCraft: Het eerste deel van het liedje is "In the hall of the mountain king" van componist Edvard Grieg. Voor de volledigheid: het tweede deel is "Derezzed" van Daft Punk, het derde deel "Aerodynamic" van Daft Punk en het laatste deel "Kernkraft 400" van Zombie Nation.

@ICMStue Ik heb hem ingezet tijdens de publieks dagen van de TU/e. Momenteel staat hij in Amsterdam voor een tv programma vandaar dat hij nu niet op de TU/e te zien is.
