I am going to America on saterday and at some point I will get a bachman Thomas loco for a comparison but I would like a head up as to how they perform on hornby track p.s. I have a mallard but it needs repairing the buffer bar has snapped of but it can still run,thank god that it can

Funny you should say that -- last year whilst running Duchess of Buccleuch ,the screw that held the motion to the centre driver (fireman's side) worked loose and fell to the ground, the connecting rod fell off of the crank and thudded into the sleepers (the loco was in reverse at the time, backing onto its train). I never did find the screw and it was a tortuous job trying to source spare parts, still I persevered and all is now tickety-boo.
