I wasn't actually saying Cliff WAS overrated, just that BECAUSE he has passed that he has been put on a pedestal. There are many great bass players, Cliff was one of them. The other guy must not know the history of Metallica, because James writes his songs, Cliff Kirk and Lars get credits when they contribute to a song.

@ESPsandEmgs cliff is overrated, ok find someone that wrote a bass instrumental that popular, that was part of one of the biggest metal bands ever and who wrote bass solos unlike any other metal song

Actually it had more to do with Bob Rock than Cliff. Justice for all was still a great album, the Black album was changed by Bob Rock, but the songs had already been written before they signed up with him, so that album is still full of great songs, but Bob changed them from a metal thrash band to a radio band. As for James writing, he wrote all the old songs too, Cliff get credit for his contributions, and when someone dies, they instantly become overrated, but James wrote every song.

@ESPsandEmgs No, I'm in highschool now. But do you notice how they started to suck when Cliff died? Because he was what made them good. I mean, they've had some good songs since he died like The Memory Remains and the first two Unforgivens, but James can't write a good song. He sucks.

Yea, I will admit their newer stuff sucks, but if you have been playing since the 3rd grade I am going to take a wild guess here, and ask you if you are now in the 4th grade?

That is the only way you could explain to me how, fade to black, blackened, the unforgiven, one, orion, master of puppets, welcome home (sanitarium), etc.etc. are not very well written songs? If you say they are not, then tis not I who be the Troll!

@ESPsandEmgs I've been playing guitar since I was in 3rd grade and I'm in a band. James isn't by any means a great guitar player. Shit, he's not even a great musician. And no, I haven't been to a Metallica concert. I'm pretty sure that you're either a Metallica fanboy who won't admit how bad St. Anger and Death Magnetic were or are a troll. I'm too tired to decide.
