@meetman..." is the name british or scottish" is insulting to the english. the question should have been"is the name english or scottish?" british includes english, scottish, welsh and northern irish. i know this sounds picky, but if anyone made such a glib comment abou tany of the former yugoslav countries, there would be an international incident!! i know the mistake wasn't intentional.
It's highly likely that your name is of Scandinavian origin. It would not be impossible for it to be Nothumbrian or Scottish in derivation (many raids and much settlement of Vikings in the early Christian period have left many clues) but it is too common a name (son of a Jack) for it to be positively identified as either.
I was told that my family.."Jackson" was first known to be in Northumberland. Is the Name British or Scotish? Or maybe some of each? Thanks for any help.
Must admit, I've surfed off Blyth. Love the small pipes. Look for Kathryn Tickell. And I was born within sight of the Tyne, so blessed. Deleval Road, as you asked...
