Oh nostalgia - I remember walking round Cambridge trying to find a copy of I Think I Need Help on 12" when it came out. Eventually ended up booking them at Warwick University in 83 when I ran Ents there - a bit self indulgent on my part (only 400 showed up) but loved it all the same. The picture sleeves were great and the songs are timeless. Aahh, wonderful.
The little chap in the wig is a character actor called Johnny Vyvyan. He used to be a side kick of Benny Hill, died a couple of years after this. One of those actors who was on telly all the time in the 60's to 80's but you wouldnt know him by name.
Also don't know if its on Youtube but "the boys" also perfomed this track live at Alton towers on some saturday kids show. They were all on platforms that were about 30 foot high and were lifted up and down several times . Health and safety !!!
What were willow lined banks seething with nature's rich tapestry have been desecrated by indiscriminate dredging carried out by the AWA. This is an angry song grrrrrrr Can I go home now?
That was their intro to a song on a Peel Session, still sticks in my mind though I haven't heard it for years. I think all their songs on that session were introduced by King Baz or Kid Baz.
Just bought the Get Out And Walk cd from HMV in Oxford Street, London a coupla weeks ago when I visited for 10 quid... a bargain, considering it has the whole original album plus B-sides and 12" remixes :D
They played at Aberdeen students union in 1983. I was the "ents rep", I was to make sure everything went smoothly, which it did, no thanks to me, except they didn't have any beer, so I managed to sort that out ! I chatted to them for a bit, and said that I was going to buy their album, but they were polite enough to say it wasn't out yet ! I must have been listening to the tracks on John Peel. Anyway, they were great, I did eventually buy "Get Out And Walk", still got it. Thanks for posting.
great to hear this again, saw the farmers at the lyceum london way back when. they sat next to us in the pub next door, and i nicked a pack of guitar strings out of stans donkey jacket pocket. appearing soon on ebay. hehe
