In Australia the only state with the 1435mm track is New South Wales. Queensland, Victoria, Australian Capital Territory, Tasmania, South Australia, Western Australia and Northern Territory iver has a gauge that's to big 1600mm or a track to small 1035mm but it would be awesome to have this in Queensland going from Cairns to Brisbane just over 1700km =)

The ICE-Velaro is build 5 Minutes from my door, their are different versions, not only Velaro-E. (Also Russia, China etc...).
And Siemens offers a special, brandnew version to the DB (Deutsche Bahn) in Germany as successor for the ICE-3. In terms of Luxus the ICE-3 is minimum as confortable as the Velaro-E.

Similar, Velaro-E is more powerful, more fast and more luxurius than ICE-3...

any idea why that is so? I thought it was more or less exactly the same as the ICE3. Is it becuse of different power supplies in Spain, or did Renfe demand even higher specs all round? Is the difference really that substantial?

In spain the distances between the cities are bigger than Germany...for that, the trains have more top speed that the german version...the diferences is about 40km/h more in the spanish version and 800Kw of power more...for that, we use the Velaro to do the direct trains for a long distance...(Madrid-Barcelona/ Madrid-Málaga...)

Also we have the AVE 102 series or Pato, It is very light and is used for trips with intermediate stops, thanks to its greater acceleration
