How to Draw Transformers

Optimus Prime, leader of the Transformers strikes a dramatic pose!

This is a long shot of Optimus. This big guy is a robot as you can see and is mostly made up of geometric shapes. Let's start with the guidelines in 30% black pencil. To make things easier begin with a simple stick figure with an oval for the head and simple stick lines for the arms and legs. This is to get his pose and proportions right.

Fill out the rest of his body with box like shapes.Use white to erase the guidelines.

For the background here I started with a dark blue band and a light blue band and then merged them together with a medium transparent shade of blue.

Once you're done with the guidelines you can add the details with an opaque black pencil. Use transparent colour to fill him in. Darker or less transparent versions of the same colours help create the shadow. Then use a solid black and you have a striking silhouette!
