Since I have been starting to get the hang of double hooping, I have been transfering the moves to poi, or veil-poi or voi! These are home-made, not as pretty as the long ones, but it sorta has the same effect? Anyways, my bellydancing is pretty rusty, but I tried to incorporate that with basic poi moves in this video. I fail to do so several times, but hopefully it looks bellydance-ish at least. I don't know the song name or the artist, unfortunately! But it has a neat 3 beat rhythm...

  • Enchanting and charming!

  • Merci beaucoup!

  • Amy this is amazing! and I agree with the others, your belly dance moves are great and the whole effect is beautiful and flowy (is that a word?) anyway it looks fantastic! My little girl really liked the "bells" on your skirt too. She was highly impressed and said you were so pretty!

  • Aw, thanks! You and your girl are so sweet! =)

  • Oh, that was gorgeous! Those poi are beautiful! The combination of that and your skirt...who cares if your moves are "rusty"? You look awesome! No one would even notice with all that cool flowy stuff to watch. :)

  • Alright! Just what I had hoped! :-) Thanks for your kind words!

  • I like the way you shortened the veil poi. It's definitely got a different feel to it and there are so many more tricks you can do! I've given up any form of windmills with my 3-yard veils. You gotta swing so hard and keep your arms so straight to keep them from tangling, that it's totally not graceful! Thanks for sharing!

  • Beautiful!!!

  • Those are the neatest voi I've seen. Like bells. No pesky tangling! Do you make those or did you buy them from somewhere?

  • So creative and beautiful! It's the coolest when artists move in their own directions, even just a little apart from established form-so unique. You had me at "full moon dance"! Keep doing your thing, Amy! You're a fabulous artist and teacher!

  • Good job! :)

  • I just listened to it again and you are right about that longer first count! I'm clueless about the music really! I wish the sound quality was better because it is cool how many layers of rhythms there are! Anyways, thanks for sharing your insight! :-)

  • Lovely and fun - as everybody is saying. As for the music's beat - it's a very typical rhythm found throughout middle-eastern music, and some Balkan - it's 3 "beats" but the first one is a little longer - count 1-2-3, 1-2, 1-2 to be technical - that gives it that little extra "something". I can't locate the source recording for you, but I know people who probably could - if you want it badly.
