Steamer SP 2472 steams up onto the interchange with Union Pacific at Hearst siding on the morning of 4-22-09. The 2472 and Robert Dollar #3 were out this morning to meet UP 844 on her journey between Oakland and Stockton, CA. Thanks to the generous cooperation of Union Pacific, the GGRM, and the PLA, a large group of fans were able to experience a meet between the three steamers.

  • He lost his fire, and relit. The momentary black smoke is just a little un-atomized fuel burning off in the pan. There's a 3% grade leading up to the crossing which isn't too fun for an engine that light on its feet with those big 'ol drivers.

  • UP and SP dont match, what about the 4449 and 844 double header two years ago?

  • What a awsome beautiful sounding bell!! Do you know what kind it is?

  • the flare up was unburned oil in the firebox.

  • Whoa @ 0:59 - POOF!!!

  • Did you film Robert Dollar 3 steaming onto the interchange?

  • Well that's your freinds opinion and I'm sticking with my opinion. And BTW UP is my favorite railroad!!!!!

  • so what? they actually looked good together! Besides, they're from the same line! UP and SP don't match! take it from my friend Johnny. He HATES UP.

  • I don't know where you came up with that kind of crap, but I think it would be cool alright! Also the if you think a pacific and a northern wouldn't be good match guess what, 2472 and the 4449 acually double headed back in 1992!!!

  • Yeah. there's nothing out there. You should join the party here on the west coast, where we have the real action!

  • No it wouldn't. A 4-6-2 pacific and a 4-8-4 Northern wouldn't make a great match. It would look like the 2472 was running for its operation right in from to the 844, trying to keep from getting run over. that would be strange.
