Privatization of public transit has been a disaster around the world. This 30-second TV ad playing in the Toronto market prior to the October 25, 2010 municipal election advocates keeping the Toronto Transit Commission under public control by pointing out the transit privatization mistakes in London, England, Melbourne, Australia, and Vancouver, Canada.
It's a good thing that it looks like Rob Ford is has changed his mind about privatizing the whole TTC

Vancouver is a failure. And bonuses keep rising for the Board of Directors. How can you get paid, if your failing your business model?

@balldoof Have you ever seen the 2-part video examining privatization of transit around the world? It doesn't help at all, as per one example, the breakup of British Rail in the 1990s in the UK led to a fatal accident as a result of cutbacks by the new owner. Please base your claims on facts and not some baloney story you thought up in 5 minutes.

@balldoof Give me one example of private operators doing a good job fixing PT in Melbourne. Just one example will do.
It costs tax payers more than it did, reliability hasn't improved and we still have no service coordination between any of the network.

The fact that you quote Paul Mees as an example of Melbourne privatization failing shows you have no credibility.
It is not failing miserably. Two decades of government incompetence failed it and the private operators do a good job of fixing that.
