I guess I'm just in a Blues mood today!
This time we go back to Chicago for Nolan Struck's "Welfare Problems".
The man born Nolton Antoine on June 16,1940 in Duson,Louisiana got his start as a professional dancer. His singing career started when bluesman Lonnie "Guitar" Junior Brooks gave him a gig with his band during which he sang and learned to play bass.
When the band moved from Texas to Chicago,Struck played bass and guitar for many Chicago soul acts including Tyrone Davis,Otis Clay and Denise LaSalle. He also played on many sessions at One-Derful! Records.
Solo,Struck recorded for Ty-doo (as Little Antoine),Shama,Retta's and Inner City Trade labels.
Nolan's brother King Edward (who had a hand in his recordings and was his right hand man) is also featured on this tune, even though I don't ksnow if he played guitar or bass.
"Welfare Problems" was released on Inner City Trade Records of Chicago in 1973.
Nolan and King Edward still perform in Blues shows to this day.
love this tune -- ktf
