US Air Dash 8-300 Inflight Engine Failure just after takeoff. The #1 engine started surging and as a precautionary measure the captain shut it down and we returned safely to the airport.A news crew was at the airport on another story and filmed the landing. You can see it here at this link http://www.wxii12.com/video/16976104/index.html

  • @Sidewinder9877 thank god. lol im going on 2 next summer :o

  • @MKhsv no sense

  • I just flew in 2 of these planes. No issues at all with them.

  • "the use of cell phones is now permitted" LOL

  • @matsopelle Ohhhh interesting, I shouldn't have said something lol.

  • @MrCaptainSr79 Oh yes, sorry you couldn't know that I live in Finland and here warm, dry summer lasts only for about three months else all it is just rain or -30°c and snow. Because SAS (Scandinavian Airline Systems) had these planes about four years ago, all of 'em had landing gear failures and it was catastrophe here, they really were dangerous because the nordic weather rusted those planes fully.

  • @matsopelle All airplanes new and used have problems. This just happens to be an example of one. The bottom line is that nobody was hurt.

  • did you hear at 2:55 ?

  • Jabiru pilot.... Please don't endorse single engine pilots to try engine outs. It isn't the same as a multi engine. Period. Don't do it or you'll find yourself in a grassy patch of field, if you're lucky. A good pilot will make it to the airport. A great pilot will give himself an out.

Why they shut an engine down for surging is beyond me. Sounds like we dint have allll the available information. Most engine surges can be resolved by pulling power back to clear the surge.

  • These were a replacement for the F27 Fokker Friendship. These were a brilliant safe plane to fly and virtually indestructable. Search the net for these Dorniers or Dash 8. These Dash 8s are NOT that safe or so sooooo reliable, check the net.
