@catalyst8 Seriously? He did his own take on a legend and that's enough for you to brand him a racist? Come off it. For a start Hrothgar is impotent in the original and while Gaiman's Beowulf is a liar, he is not a coward. He kills Grendel and the dragon.
Moving on Gaiman is not at all saying that Anglo Saxons are anything, he is presenting one take on one legend. To think that that's racism is absurdly sensitive. Not mention it's hardly the only one. Ananasi Boys, American Gods, Sandman...

@GriffinPilgrim Beowulf is the cornerstone of Anglo-Saxon culture. The qualities the human characters exhibit within the narrative represent the Anglo-Saxon ideals & aspirations: heroism, honesty, charity, nobility, justice, generosity, good humour, & most of all impeccable personal honour.
Gaiman poisoned this making Beowulf a liar, coward & cheat, Hrothgar & the Danes impotent, cowardly, gluttonous bullies, etc.
It's racist because Gaiman is saying that's what Anglo-Saxons are.

@catalyst8 OK, while you are correct in your facts, what in blue hell gave you the idea that Gaiman's a racist?

@GGUBoss "Written by Neil Gaiman"
It was written & sung by Moore, but Gaiman had nothing whatsoever to do with it. It was originally released as a flexi-disk in Critters No. 23 some time prior to 1988. The band 'The Sinister Ducks' consisted of Moore under the pseudonym Translucia Baboon, David J of Bauhaus fame, & Alex Green from The Jazz Butcher.
Why do you think it had anything to do with that racist Gaiman?

Think the Gaiman confusion is due to him having linked to this in a blog in like '06 or '07 ... not entirely sure when, and I'm too lazy to look.

Thank you so very much!

i bel;ive it was alan moore and david j (from bauhuaus/love and rockets) who wrote it for a birthday party for daniel ash... or maybe kevin haskins....

I'm sure others have asked this question: but who wrote this song? I know Alan Moore is the singer but who wrote the original lyrics, what album was this from, and what band and/or company made it?
I reason why my question is so detailed is because I hope to use this song as a source for my senior thesis. So I would be grateful for the answers as soon as possible.

@GGUBoss Nothing to do with Gaiman.

Every time I listen to this song, I picture the seven-foot sasquatch making quack noises.
