It's a great challenge to play in the style of Watrous... playing in silence, ''horn sound'', high notes, technically difficult patterns, and of course precise attacking in all register... I think, he has a quite unique, flexible embuchure which makes it possible to play high notes with less energy...

  • how do i get this type of flexibility

  • youtube provides musicians an avenue to critique others to a degree that can become disrespectful. this guy can play his horn well and has a good feel - i'd like to know what groups he's in!!

    keep blowin'!

  • Really nice job but not quite up to Watrous's level. 5/5

  • Bill Watrous uses a Bach LT16M. It's a .509 bore, similar to a King 3B. He said it's an older New York Bach. He also will use a silver plated Bach 36 for legit playing. I heard this from one of his clinics you can find on youtube.

  • Watrous that I know doesn't use a pee shooter nor does he need one to play hig or fast, which is the 3rd and 4th best thing about Watrous. 1 and 2 are phrasing and tone.

  • He doesn't need a pee shooter to hit his notes. It's in his air flow. He actually probably has 30 horns and most are actually huge bells for the soft and sweet sound. I apprecaite the effort of the transcriPtion.

  • i've heard both their low ranges on multiple recordings. i've met harry in person. he's amazing, but isn't alessi.

  • pretty sure watrous didn't use a big horn like you are. He uses a tiny horn which helps him in playing high and fast and having the extreme flexibility that he does.

  • Hey man, you've got a really really nice sound! That's where it's all at!

  • Are you recording using the camera mic? I'd recommend the Zoom h2, i just bought it, it records my trombone beautifully. you can hook it into the camera and it will act as an external mic for it. I got mine off amazon for $160, and its the best and most versatile in its price range.
