@flyinghow yes she doesnt classify herself in order to earn more roles, but that doesn't mean that she doesn't have a specific voice type. Also if you watch her during the whole Carmen (or other performances as well) you'll see that she can't sing the lower notes properly.

@spyridon77 She has sung both soprano and mezzo roles and does not classify herself as either. I should have said "singer" and left out the mezzo.

She looks like Carol Burneett. Can't help thinking its a spoof. But I do like her animated voice!

She is the only mezzo ever to sing this who does away with the "prettiness" and gets into the soul of the role....Love it. Brava!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was the first production of Carmen I ever saw! It was on a video streaming site connected to my university. ^ ^ I hope I can sing this role someday.
Maria Ewing does such a great job as Carmen. It's basically perfect for her. Throughout the whole opera you don't know whether to trust her or not! I love it!
