  • Very clean sound for being recorded almost 100 years ago. :-)

  • @odinfromcentr2 Thank you, my technique was not as good when this was posted. You should listen to some of my more recent posts by the choir. Thanks for watching!

  • @GregoryOrme This is the acoustic version.

  • @pax41 Is this the acoustic version, c. 1912, then or a later electrical?

  • Well, on the Victors it was actually due to inferior shellac being used on popular releases throughout the late 1920's. I guess the management wonks at Victor thought they could get away with cutting corners like that.

  • Beautiful !

  • Thanks for the information on the electricals.

  • I believe the more intense crackle on electrics is due to their larger dynamics. Grooves seem to be more vulnerable on 'forte' passages. Even on modern microgroove discs this phenomenon occurs. Thank you for uploading this wonderful hymn.

  • I find that the accoustics have less noise than the electrics. If the record is in bad shape that is one thing but most of the time the electrics seem to have more crackle.

  • Thanks for posting this, pax. Nice that the sound is so clean, too.
