I love the book and I agree that she should end up with Neil. But the way Randall Bantikoff plays David in the show is different. In the show I see David as very understanding and treats her like a woman. I find that here Neil is less deserving, he treats her like a child by the river, I feel like I am very much like Christy and I wouldn't be able to stand being around Neil and his changing moods and argumentative ways for very long. David in the show is sweet and loving, not selfish.

"That blundering fool has hurt you" Be still my freakin heart! Can I just say how much I adore his accent?

This is a great video! Because of this video, Better Man is on my I-pod on repeat! :-)

I like this because it has Neil/Christy clips. <3 Neil!!

SJ Barra, I agree with you that was one of the best episodes. Neil does understand Christy better. David doesn't get her connection with the mountain people. He just saw it as a job till he got a better posting. She saw it as a true ministry and call to serve God.

@Gilari Very well put!

@his627 In real life there was no "Neil", so "Christy" didn't have the choice, did she? In the book, David is selfish, shallow, and immature. He doesn't understand Christy, doesn't appreciate her for her mind or her talents. He wants a wife and she happens to be by. In the book, Christy says as much. She says that they would have been content but not happy if they had married. I think Mrs. Marshell knew her stuff when she didn't let them get married.

@DancersAreCool Neil treats Christy like a woman. He listens to her, understands her, challanges her on what she thinks and how she thinks. David treats Christy like a child, to be indulged and petted. He doesn't really listen to her, or even talk to her. He talks AT her. In the book. Christy acknowledges as much.

@his627 in real life she married neil....not david (even though it should have been!)
One of the best episodes - apart from the cliff-hanger!
