BRT stands for "Bus Rapid Transit." It is an integrated, high performance transit system with a unique identity, designed to reduce travel time, improve reliability, and increase the level of comfort for bus customers. BRT systems typically consist of all or a combination of seven main elements, which include the following:

- System identity and branding which bring a unique and distinguished visibility to the BRT service

- Bus ways where the road is dedicated to the exclusive use of buses

- High capacity vehicles

- High visibility stations

- A service plan that provides an easily understandable route map and schedule

- Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) that provides information on next arriving bus at the bus stations, and the next stop on-board buses

- Traffic Signal Priority (TSP) which gives buses priority at traffic lights

The video shows some of the first generation BRT elements already in place in New York City

  • BRT is certainly better than no transit, but its hardly Ideal and really not much more than a band aid solution because of general insufficient funding for more robust transit. The pentagon gets over a 750 billion dollar black check annually while transit has to fight for the most basic funding in a supposedly 1st world country. That totally makes sense.

  • This isn't real BRT, if you want real BRT, take a look at Brisbane's Busway system.

  • @krizvasa what's wrong with trams, I like trams way better than buses, and BRT still doesn't beat the nyc subway. Just because you would favor one form of transportation over another doesn't mean it shouldn't be run. It increases & diversifies the options for people to get around in the city to areas of their choice.

  • Awesome!!!

  • Great! :)

  • It is great way how to solve traffic problems! Public transport is energy and space effective. BRT are real buses. Dedicated lanes will provide faster operation. „Even people who own cars prefer to go by public transport because it is faster! Great work!! BRT will be great addition for subway. Is NY considering constructing of tram network too? It is better but more expensive than BRT.
