This video contains several films providing an overview of R&R (Rest And Recuperation), a side of the Vietnam War that has received very little attention.
From surfing at China Beach to the night clubs, brothels and bars of Vietnam, this video offers a look at R&R from the military's perspective. These films were produced to warn GIs of the perils of prostitution, getting drunk and eating in the open markets, among many issues of concern for the health of the fighting man in Vietnam. It also includes unedited film footage showing soldiers enjoying a day of surfing and partying at China Beach. Includes excellent scenes at "Camp Alpha," where soldiers are processed for out-of-country trips. Candid interviews with soldiers about their plans.
