This poor dog came to the Spca because people abandonded him. Because he was a Cane Corso and afraid (under-socialized, kept chained typical sad story) i was asked to come check him out. He was afraid and barking at me, but using food for 20 mins passed and he ate out of my hand. Being a Cane Corso they are cautious of people by breed and most dogs in a shelter environment, just abandoned by everyone they knew are scared senseless regardless.
This all happened in about a 3-4 week span, at the beginning of, to late Jaunuary 2010, and ended around Mid February. During this time he was neutered, (tip of the hat to Douglas college students and staff for the awesome job they did making Tyson comfortable and if any of the kids reading this who helped me get big, little Tyson (coming off of the drugs, all disoriented and scared) back into my car to bring back to spca, THANK YOU. i am crying as i write this part. They helped me for almost two hours to get him back in he was so scared. A special woman at the Burnaby SPCA waited for Tyson and i to return many Thanks to you as well.
He was then sent to the vancouver spca to get evaluated and failed because he lundged, and bit at a brush during the grooming aspect of the evaluation. i did the same test after and he let me brush him instantly because i had developed trust with this sweet soul.
I must tell that, i worked for 4 days just on getting into my car exercises by placing his food dish closer and closer to the car till he ate his food inside. i spent TIME with him. (It's this trainer's opinion that the evaluations/tests are unfair at best for all these dogs. Imagine for a moment you are dropped off, abandoned, everything you grew up knowing is gone, locked in a concrete kennel, by all new people dressed all funny with smocks etc, you are scared, nervous and your life will depend on the next series of tests these new people make for you. Maybe the tests are good to evaluate for a quick turn-around dog to be rehomed quickly, but what about the rest? Tests Need simply show us where these dogs are at, and what they will need which is time, care, compassion and patience. Many other factors such as the environment these tests are done in need to be addressed as well.
After Tyson failed at Vancouver he was sent to a private evaluator who i met :( and left Tyson with overnight. During all this the poor guy developed kennel cough (which is a curable ailment and i thought to myself "why is it taking so long for this dog to get better"? He was then transfered to the Vancouver SPCA and kept in isolation.
one day when i went to the Burnaby Spca i was told if i want to see Tyson i would need to go right away they where planning on killing him. i rushed, pleaded with Ryan the manager and their behaviorist to give him up to me to which literally ended up a DEAD END. Policy i was told, Liability. i said i would sign anything, waivers you name it. Its like they wanted to kill him. i gave them many options. i wish i had video taped my progress with this poor soul to show these misguided higher powers of management how wrong they are.
i got Tyson an extention till thenext morning, i took him for a walk, i spoiled him with food. i went back the next morning, took some pics and vid to have of him and to share his story so others will not have to suffer like he did and that the spca and shelters like them take a good look at themselves. To do what their name says or change it to the Society for the Prevention and Cruelty to Animals, Somtimes. SPCAS. Ask if people know who Henry Bergh is and what happened to his creation once he died. it died with him just ike the dogs are today.
please read Redemption-the myth of pet overpopulation and the no kill revolution by Nathan Winograd and see for yourself the lies and brainwashing we have all been fed all these years. If euthanasia is a "mercy kill" why are we killing healthy dogs, cats and other animals.
i could no longer be silent, and have lived with this inside for a year (i just realized the time frame is exactly that, he died a year ago and how many more did as well? RIP Titan. You were Loved!
decide for yourself speak up for animals.
i have one regret in life and it is that i did not take this poor dog when i could have. God bless the 2 volunteers and staff that day, two volunteers supported me when i said i would take him, but i was afraid of the consequences. I'm so sorry Tyson, the one person you began to trust let you down to.
There are many volunteers and staff who do speak up (you know who you are (wink wink) and are taking action, if i had one wish is that you,i and everyone, all do it. Lets make changes from within. Let's give these animals what they deserve, a life.
recently three people came into my life and they are the reason this is posted. Much love to them and thanks.
i just went to a bcspcabc video with Jason Priestly and there are no comments due to the uploader approval. what type of institution/organization funded by public donation does not allow freedom of posting? Hmmm Jason? . a fearful one. one that is Not unbiased but biased and a contradiction in itself. ego runs that place not caring people. "Speak the truth and speak it ever, for it what it will.
