This is the fourth day of the Fort to Port canoe trip on the Maumee River. This segment starts in Grand Rapids Ohio and ends in Toledo Ohio at International Park. This section is the only part of the entire Maumee River that includes fast water and rapids. Canoe and kayakers will enjoy the stretch from Grand Rapids to Perrysburg, but beware, water levels drop mid-summer making travel through the area difficult due to shallow water.

  • You're welcome. I'm glad we were able to give you another peek at the river.

  • at 10:00 was my first solo "rapids" experience (yesterday). I use quotations around "Rapids" because I know what serious rapids look like, and this ain't that...but it was my first time and fun enough for me.

Yes, the rapids aren't too "grand" especially this time of year with the water levels so low. It does get interesting in the spring. You should give it a try in mid May. All that said, it is the fastest part of the entire river.

  • Thank you! I went to school in Waterville Ohio 60+ years ago and I still dream sometimes of various little spots along the river.
