Artist Gabriel Bass has created numerous unique techniques for elegantly combining his wood and glass skills. This video demonstrates a technique for sculptural lighting, for which he blows the hot glass into a wood mould. The Israeli Olive wood or cypress base, which is used as the mould, is first lathe turned and hollowed by hand, before it is brought into the hot shop. The molten glass in collected from the furnace and shaped to fit the mould. Blowing hot glass into the soaking mould sets off flames and smoke, the ultimate combination of the elements! The glass is slowly cooled in the kiln. The mould is then cleaned up, carved, inlayed, and finished with stain and laquer. The glass is then set back into the base for a stunning sculptural element
