The video proofs the performance of a home made servo pendulum windvane selfsteering device. Heel due to roll movement in the steep sideward waves is up to 50°. The course deviation caused by the waves is up to 20°. The windvane axis tilt angle is choosen with 20° in order to have a quicker additional reaction on the wave induced course error. The system inherent yaw dampening can be observed.

Conditions:
Wind: NE 12-15 m/s (Bft 6), ship: Jeanneau Sangria LOA 7,60 m; ship speed: 5.6 kn; wave height: up to 3 m, apparent wind: 85°; Sails: Jib only; Location: Southern Baltic, Date: 01.05.2009; mean heel: 15°.

  • It all seems to behave very well. Can we see your wind-vane plans on the web somewhere?
