Chumash Painted Cave

Just north of Santa Barbara is a very interesting cave painting. A bit tricky to find but very do-able. Take the Painted Cave road off of 154. Go about two miles and it will be on the left. The tour books will tell you it is a steep road--do not attempt in a trailer or RV.

There was actually another painting to the left but it was slightly deeper in the cave and there was not enough light to record properly. You can't go in the cave but you can peak in through a gate.

@AnyaWerecat Yes, Americans are obssessed with destruction, whether it's countries overseas or the cultural products of Native Americans. After all, what did Eurpoeans do when they came to the "New" World besides eradicate the peoples who were already here?

This is sad and true :( There are other instances of rock art in California that have been destroyed intentionally with BULLET holes. I wish the gate did not have to be there, but there are very good reasons like you say for its presence.
