Google founders Larry Page and Sergei Brin dumped millions of dollars into the new Tesla Roadster, an all-electric sports car that looks like a Lotus and drives like a Maserati. Watch as we take the first one for a spin around Silicon Valley. It's eco-friendly, and oh-so-fast! And for just $100,000, you, too, can have one of your very own!

  • I am a blue collar working class person who makes less than 40k a year. I do not understand why people think that $100,000 it to much for an:

-All electric, Lithium Ion Battery car

    -Does 0 to 60 faster than a Ferrari,(which costs $125,000)

-Hand made, custom built on a Lotus all Aluminum racing chassis

    -Looks frikkin' hotter than heck.

I mean , come on how in the hell are you going to get a Wal-frikkin'-Mart version of this that even compares?

Duh, try making one of these in your Garage!

  • Yeah, look the MSRP for a new 2006 Hummer H1 is, $125,000 to $136,000 .

How much is the latest Porsche Carrera S goes for $96,000 new.

So why is the journalist constantly gagging out the "super high cost" of the Tesla?

They are just constantly trying to down the electric car, because they are not believers, period.

  • @enslaveren Of course it won't be 100% clean but it is much better than producing gas guzzling cars.

  • Everyone who calls electric cars 100% clean mistakes a little. did the energy for this car was obtained clean also? doesnt matter where to burn oil - on electroplant and then charhe ur car or directly in a motor =)

  • Kudos to the chumps at Tesla for taking the petty route, bringing a suit against Top Gear for what THEY consider libel. The most ironic part is that this ridiculous accusation demeans their name more than Top Gear ever could have. Google "Tesla Top Gear libel" and find Top Gear's response for the real story

  • @drtyfknmouth I just got back from a tesla dealership in Manhattan and I think most of your criteria is met now. With their new charging system, it takes 3.5 hours to charge and has a range of 245 miles. As far as a Buying a Ferarri that matches that takeoff speed, one would have to purchase the Ferarri f50 for $660,000. Although they have increased the range time and decreased the charge time, I think this car will need somewhere around 200 miles for every hour charged to be successful.

  • @moh2o

100000 dollar is 1 8th the price of my house that is a lot but my house is a lot as well I know some houses that are worth less then 100000

  • @moh2o Well, I love the idea of an all electric car. BUT, until it can go more than 100 miles without having to be recharged, & that recharge doesn't take a half a day, & there are places to charge it up, like gas stations, that are as numerous as gas stations (otherwise, you gonna pull into a total strangers driveway & ask to plug in for 10.5 hours?), & until a drivable version of a production car is much more affordable than now, I'm afraid the electric car is simply an expensive novelty.

  • moh2o is exactly right! So quit bitchin about the price the more successful the tesla models are the lower the prices will get, maybe.

  • To me, $120K is a lot of money. I think it is too for many people. It's not that the Roadster isn't worth it. Tesla is a start-up company that doesn't have the resources to mass produce cars for less money like GM or Toyota. But you are right. An electric car that goes 0-60 in 4.5 seconds (faster than an M3), goes 240 miles without using a drop of gasoline, and only costs $7.00 to charge-up is really damn worth it.

  • When I win the lottery I'll get one

  • Uhg this guys emphasis is on every second word. Awesome car though!
