  • Damien might be riding to fame on Roy's coat-tails but he'll never be Roy: he just doesn't have the voice.

  • @jothos1 Great to see Damiens album Roy doing so well ......9mths in the charts sellout concerts, standing ovations.

  • I know that Linda Ronstadt has generally been an interpreter rather than a writer and singer of original songs. However, as I've written elsewhere, when she sings the songs of others she has a way of making them her own. Here's something else to think about! How many musical stars have only sung songs composed by themselves!

  • @ironthing You have a great way of putting things and I couldn't agree more. If others think they can take on a 'BIG O' song, they'd better be damned sure about what they're doing. Roy knew who could sing his songs and gave them his blessing. The rest should stop making fools of themselves. enough to take on the 'Big O' songs, they'd better be something special. Having a 'nice voice' is just not enough to cut it.

  • I wrote a piece about Damien Leith a few days ago but can't find it on U-Tube. The thrust of what I said was that great singers like K.D. Lang and Linda Ronstadt have interpreted Roy Orbison songs in ways that that make them their own. In my opinion, these interpretations are compliments to Roy. Damien's thin voice and moderate range simply can't generate Roy's magic. I think Damien's 'tribute album', like all tribute albums, is just an attempt to ride to fame on a giant's coat-tails.

  • @thebraff I'll give this guy credit, he did sing it very well... But... I have to agree with hartommitch here, Roy Orbison sang with a power and emotion nobody else can seem to achieve. Roy Orbison was one hell of a singer.

  • Orbison-Light! Roy's been pasteurized, homogenized and falsettoed to death.

    Pass.

  • he is amazing really

  • Damien has a good voce. He does the Don Mclean version here. I miss the real power Roy Orbison had at the end of the song. Roy didn't use falsetto. I like the way Damien sings but DON'T compare him with Roy Orbison, that would be wrong.

  • If anyone can do Roy Orbison, Damien can. I have heard him sing Only the Lonely and it was just as brilliant as this song.

Damien gives the respect that Roy Orbison deserves.

I still love playing/watching this video.

    Thank you.
