To celebrate the end of the Gwili Railway's 30th Anniversary Year, the 2 and 1/2 mile line hired in GWR 2-6-2T 45xx Class 'Small Prairie' Tank 4566 from the Severn Valley Railway, to join the homebased resident fleet.

The original idea was to run 4566 with two Four-Wheel coaches - TVR 220/GWR 3846 and newly restored GWR 216. Unfortunately, 216 wasn't ready in time for the event and so the theme changed slightly. 4566 was put on the Mk1 set and 'Haulwen' was put on the 'Miner's Train', made up of TVR 220/GWR 3846 and GWR Toad Brakevan 68465.

Also there were atractions along the line. At Bronwydd Arms, visitors had the oppourtinatey to visit the GWR Signal Box which is originally from Llandybie (you can do this everyday the railway operates), Drive 'Olwen' for a Tenner, a Museum at the end of the car park, mainly looking at Signalling, sitting in the Routemaster Rus and of course of the shop. Llwyfan Cerrig Station had a burger van which served the usual items, rides on the Miniature railway, a Travelling Post Office was on display of 1969, a chance to look at TVR coach 153 which is about to start restoration, plus GWR 216 which is nearly done.

The full locomotive line up -

| GWR 2-6-2T 45xx Class 'Small Prairie' Tank 4566
| Hunslet 0-6-0ST Saddle Tank 'Haulwen'
| Robert Stephenson & Hawthorns 0-4-0ST Saddle Tank 'Olwen' (aka Percy).

The plan me and my Dad did -

| 1015 - Bronwydd Arms to Danycoed with 4566
| 1045 - Danycoed to Llwyfan Cerrig with 4566
| 1200 - Llwyfan Cerrig to Danycoed with 'Haulwen'
| 1210 - Danycoed to Llwyfan Cerrig with 'Haulwen'
| 1315 - Llwyfan Cerrig to Bronwydd Arms with 4566
| 1455 - Bronwydd Arms to Danycoed with 4566
| 1525 - Bronwydd Arms to Danycoed with 4566

Intrestingly, only Bronwydd Arms was an original station. Llwyfan Cerrig was a Halt for workers in the mine nearby and translates into 'Stone Platform'. Danycoed means 'Under the Wood' and was never anything until it opened in 2001.

It was a fab event, I got to ride in a Toad! Good luck to everyone at the Gwili Railway with the extenion to Carmarthen North.
