True story: The executives of the channel Star Trek was aired on asked Shatner to reshoot this scene so he wouldn't be seen kissing an African American, and in the second take, he crossed his eyes as they zoomed into his face, forcing them to use the first take where he actually kissed her. William Shatner is the man.

OK those of you who think this is forced are obviously not Star Trek fans. Of course it's forced they were being controlled by the "Greek God's" and were being forced to perform for them hence it was "forced". It was hard enough in the 60s to get this aired and it would never have made it if it would have shown true passion for each other. Get a clue folks we live in a different time.

    Bottom line is "REAL" kiss.

This was revolutionary for its time. Given that the original Star Trek pushed the boundaries in challenging prejudices of the time, it surprises me that the latter incarnations of Star Trek (i.e. The Next Generation, Deep Space 9, Voyager and the new Star Trek films) don't tackle the issue of gays and lesbians.

Yes, this is a different time....... In fact, we have become more divisive and racist than ever before.

yeah but you know the first TV couple to break from the decency codes to lie in the same bed with both feet off the floor? It was lily and herman munster. they execs let it slide because she was a vampire and he was a frankenstein monster, so they weren't technically a "human" man and woman. though yvonne de carlo and fred qwenne definitely were.

The cameraman deserves an applause for seeing through their plan and keeping it secret and continuing to film.
