Ok, so now I've created my YouTube account. Where do I begin?

After finding your topic of choice. The best place to start would be. Subscribers...
Personally, it absolutely takes me a long time for me to create videos and for me to the motivated to. I need to know that my content is at least being watched. So, I started to create a "subscriber based foundation" for my channel. This mainly consisted of around 50 subscribers at first. This way, at least I'd have peace of mind knowing that every time I uploaded a video, a small hand full of people out of those subscribers would watch what I had to say.

Spend about an hour a day and network. Surf YouTube for the videos you personally enjoy watching in the first place. And when you do come across a video that you have genuinely enjoyed watching. Then take 3 minutes and leave a nice positive comment, or send them a private message to tell them. Through this, you'd be able to create a positive rapport for you and for your channel.

Thereafter, start sending out friend requests or even box4box invites to other channels. People would be naturally curious with what all the fuss is about when they receive your invites, so this in turn allows you to offer your content on a plate for others to sample. But at first try to network with channels that are similar in size to your own. If you tend to message channels that are significantly bigger than yours. The likely hood is that, they probably already receive a massive influx of invitations and messages already. So you may or may not gain a response from them, with the feedback that you want.

But whatever you do DON'T spam people. It's really impersonal. If the person your messaging see's the exact same message on another channels, you'd instantly lose all creditably and you won't be taken seriously.

And also, utilise Twitter. There just as many people on Twitter that may or may not have seen your content. And if you spend just as much time networking on Twitter than you do one Youtube. You'd definitely, statistically reap the fruits of your labour.

Having said all this and keeping all these things in mind. As a YouTube, you'd always be thinking of ideas for your next video. Though Instead of asking: "What videos should I make?" But rather ask the question: "What videos...do people want to watch?"
The best inventions out there are the ones where someone has taken an existing great idea and making it into an even better one, by adapting to it or by perhaps presenting it in a different fashion.

These are all of the things you need to ponder about. Experiment!
It might take you 10 videos to find out or it might take you 50, whilst all the time making sure that quantity never compromises your quality!

It takes time and dedication and above all...patience. Everything will NOT happen overnight. The point is, is to never stop trying and if you ultimately and whole heartedly enjoy what you do here on YouTube. Then, I can tell you now...you're already half way there.

  • To be honest, I upload a great amount of content. But my subscriber base is dead with you I know you started with 50 subs! That's great but its quite the opposite for me. I have 37 subscribers which I think aren't truly subscribers because when i upload a video I get like on average 10-15 views with 37 subs. Prove a point eh? But yeah, this video should help people and i would like to help support other smaller channels like mine or have similar experiences.

  • @Mrgetowned1 @KILLLER526 15 views out of 35 subscribers is a fairly good pecentage. Since you now know who actively watches your uploads, you can start to expand upon that. Return the support through views, comments or even box4boxes. See what channels those particular people are watching themselves. Follow the bread crumbs and don't be afraid to drop names to tell channels how or who directed you to them :)

  • I disagree with 1 point u made & that is subs. From experience people will not sub to a channel with no content. I personally wouldn't cause u don't know how active they r nor do u know what there taste in videos r on youtube. Ur content is key for any channel, its the starting point & a foundation to encourage views & subs to ur channel. So video content is key. There is no quick fix its time consuming & thats what people forget. Very informative & I agree with some aspects of wat ur saying.

  • I totally agree with you @Hazel1558 that content IS the forefront of any channel and to an extent, it does help to encourage views...if people are willing to click on your videos and watch them.

But having said that, perhaps I just didn't get into enough detailI with the points I was trying to make and I apologise for the misdirection. But I didn't reallyyyyyy expect people to gain subscribers from an empty channel :P

  • great video mate! what games apart from skyrim would you reccomend someone to do to get people interested in their channel?

  • @Grhymtv Well, the skies the limit really with the amount of games (old and new), that are out there atm. Personally, I can't get enough of GTA IV or PES. But share with us the games that you enjoy playing to begin with, while at the same time trying not to jump on any bandwagons. Easier said than done, but be creative in the way you create and present your videos to us. It doesn't always need to follow the traditional sense of a walkthrough :)
