But "technical" and "basic" aren't opposed to each other.

Demian Maia is extremely technical when it comes to things like base, balance, guard passing, guard retention etc.

Grappling skill, that is.

The fact that his technique ARSENAL is basic, like most top grapplers', has nothing to do with whether he is a technical grappler or not.
