the fact that bee's pay it no mind is very interesting...brilliant way to protect bee hives. do you know if its any particular ingredient that puts them off?

@creekroad1 It only took about 2 days for me to start catching bees, of course I placed the traps about 5 feet from the nest. I caught maybe 50 bees in 3 or 4 traps, it wasn't a very big nest, I looked at it today and I think all the bees are gone under that tree. Cut up apples worked best for me, I tried bacon also but that one only caught about 5 bees. I hate those stinking yellow jackets, one of them stung me when I tried to rake under the tree at night.

I am not sure why the Honey bees pay on attention to the trap. This recipe was in the book "Beekeeping for Dummies". Which is a great book for beginners.

Yes I agree Yellow Jacket and those Bald faced Hornets aren't good for anything. This time of the year they are desperate for food so why not give them one last meal before they die.

I had a yellow jacket nest under a thick pine tree with limbs all the way to the ground, I couldn't get under there to pour gas in it. I made several similar traps. I took the 2 liter bottle and cut the top off about 5 inches down where the sides turn straight. Put some cut up apples in the bottom half, turn the top half upside down and stick it in the other half, secure with tape. I caught many bees and pretty well wiped that nest out.

I have noticed it don't take long for them to find the trap. Within a week I had about 3 inches of dead bees in the bottom.
