UC -- Davis faculty livid about pepper spray assault

Over the weekend a video posted on YouTube has caused a lot of uproar. In it a cop pepper sprays a group of student protesters who are participating in a sit in at UC- Davis. Chancellor Linda Katehi order the eviction of students staging the Occupy protest on Friday. As of now Katehi has refused to resign, but many faculty members believe she should reconsider the notion. Two members of the campus police have been placed on paid leave while the investigation is being conducted. Nathan Brown, professor of English at UC Davis, is one of the professors calling for the Chancellor's resignation and he shares his thoughts.

I find it astonishing that before President Obama came in the picture every one wanted younger people to get involved in politics. They chastised the young adults of this country for being "lazy".

Well, now were are involved. We hate what we see and we want to change it for the BETTER. Again, we are chastised. Now we are "lazy-bongo-beating-hippies" who should go out and find a job.

I wish they'd make up their minds. We have.

@KelpStalker Explain to me how it's alright for them to treat these students worse than prison citizens and keep their jobs? It's illegal in CA prisons to pepper spray a sitting inmate. Provocation or not, it wasn't right. Plus, I can't remember the last time a cop did something GOOD for me. All they've done so far is enter my house unlawfully, give me parking tickets, give me speeding tickets, and take my things. Good for these kids for showing people that cops are tools of suppression.

@JonnyGR04 - Look, I am no fan of the Govt' - tickets (I have a fat one to pay) but I can see both sides, and they did say each kid individually "move or forceful removal will happen" - to have these guys lose their job, for the kids to become celebrities - some order is needed and the kids were out of it. - We simply disagree.
