Gary Johnson, a libertaran leaning Republican governor of New Mexico from 1995 - 2003, says 90% of the problems are prohibition related and only 10% user related. He goes on to support states' sovereignty, and during the interview it is mentioned how New York's refusal to enforce alcohol prohibition triggered a legalizing domino effect.

in 1995, 500,000 people were arrested under marijuana charges, and 82% of them were arrested for posetion. i am counting the days on my callender, because i cannot wait for 2010, because as soon as that day happens im rolling a 2 gram joint in a american flag paper, getting about 10 other people, and blazing the joint of freedom in the parking lot of my local police station. its about fucking time man!!!!!
ok so first of all, "medicinal marijuana" is legal in 14 or 15 states, including california and new mexico. medicinal marijuana is where you get a persctiption, or a liscense to smoke it. federaly it is ilegal, so feds can bust patients still. obamas administration came out on i think october 19th,2009 (or somewhere around there, give or take a few days) and said that administration plan to have marijuana legalized and regulated in the united states of America, starting with california, by 2010.
Johnson is for reduced government spending which will be better in the long run for everyone. Obama keeps spending and spending and spending and nothing is working. If hemp is legalized, the government will be making so much money on the tax and it is in fact a healthier alternative than cigarettes and alcohol. Johnson 2012
