Authorities confirmed yesterday primary amoebic meningoencephalitis, caused by a rare but fatal brain-eating amoeba called Naegleria fowleri, as the cause of death for 16-year-old Florida teen Courtney Nash. Nash last week swam in St. Johns River near her home. The parasite likely got into her body via her nose.

  • @tannalv Well, you can sometimes be saved if treatment is begun REALLY early. Most people don't catch it that early, so they die :(

  • 97% death rate? What's the point of seeking medical help then?

  • May God be with her family.
