I saw a guy in Hermosa Beach, CA riding his wooden beach cruiser bicycle. The only things I saw that wasn't wooden were the gear and crank, chain, and rubber tires. It looked like oak (no doubt it has to be a hard wood) and had a nice finish to it. It must weigh so much. It looked awesome.
