Ive never been a fan of clay Aiken, but after this interview I have a new found respect for him. He is very articulete and has a good sense of humor.

Every gay person has their own journey to being completely out. No one should ridicule their process until they've walked in their shoes. For a guy who grew up in a strictly conservative Christian family & community, opening up in his late 20's is not really such a big deal. Never could understand who so many jerks (of both sexual persuasions) made it their career to humiliate him.

I knew I was gay since the 5th grade and I grew up in a very conservative christian community. everyone is different, but I still have hard time believing he didn't realize he was gay until Idol. I think Clay has a hard time facing up to truth like admitting he hired a male hooker before coming out.
