Well, I can't think of anything you could put in the tube that would be heavier than water, but wouldn't affect the detector. Epoxy maybe, but it would have to be a much larger tube. How about plexiglass sheet cut to the shape of the coil? Then stack as many duplicates as you need to get the weight you want. Use spray glue to laminate them.
How the heck could a tube of water keep your coil from floating? your idea just makes the coil heaver on land. the water in the tube weighs exactly the same as the water in the lake or ocean. the only net weigh gain is the zip ties, tubing connector and the tube it's self. You would be better off to add some weight in the detector shaft as far down towards the coil as possible. better yet, use a detector that already has a heaver than water coil like the minelab excalibur.

I agree with rainylakeboy as far as adding a weight to the shaft. Also, instead of water in the tube, use sand!
